estyn dwylo

Am ddau ddiwrnod ganol Hydref bu'r artist cymunedol Pod Clare yn ystafell fwyta Ysbyty Bronglais gyda bagiau o ffabrig a haearn smwddio. Gallai unrhyw aelod o'r staff, os dymunai, ddewis tecstil oedd yn disgrifio ei bersonoliaeth, tynnu llun o gwmpas ei law a'i dorri allan o'r ffabrig ac yna ei lynu wrth ddarn o ffabrig lliw arall drwy ddefnyddo'r haearn smwddio ar lud. Yna pwythwyd yr holl baneli ar ffurf dwylo wrth ei gilydd i wneud crogluniau sydd yn dangos yn glir faint o ddwylo sydd eu hangen i redeg ysbyty!

Comfort Blanket Project

19 Dec-16 March St Fagans: National Museum, Cardiff

During the autumn 2008 members of the Parkinson’s support group and the Visually Impaired support group spent eight weeks making artworks inspired by the work of textile artist, Becky Knight. Working with Becky, each person identified one thing they found comforting. Then, by collecting and selecting relevant items, they made an original wall hanging on their chosen theme. The work was displayed in the Caffi Gallery at Aberystwyth Art Centre in November prior to being exhibited in St Fagans, Cardiff alongside an exhibition by Becky Knight from 19 Dec until 16 March 2009.

The project was made possible with the backing of St Fagans : National History Museum, Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Haul-arts in health in Ceredigion. Members of both groups will go on a coach trip to St Fagans to see the exhibition in the New Year.

Helping Hands

October 2008
Three wallhangings were made by 75 members of staff as part of the annual nationwide Big Draw event. The project was funded by The League of friends.

helping hands

For 2 days in mid October the community artist Pod Clare came to Bronglais Hospital dining room with bags of fabric and an iron. Any member of staff who cared to was able to choose textiles that expressed their personality, drew around their hand and cut it out of one fabric and then attached it to another coloured fabric by means of iron on adhesive. These small hand shaped panels, which were later sewn together to make wall hangings which demonstrate how many different hands it takes to run a hospital!

Digital Storytelling in the Tregaron area for the over 50's

HAUL invited Martine Ormerod and Sue Jones Davies to work on this project to explore the lives of local people through stories – either in pictures, words or in video. The main focus was with a group of people who attend the Luncheon Club at the Talbot hotel in Tregaron and people who attend the Bryntirion Day Centre.

This project was funded through the Welsh Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) for projects within Communities First areas in Wales.

Current Exhibition in Bronglais Dining Room: Ysbyty Ystwyth History Textiles Exhibition February-March 2009 Since September 2007, the community of Ysbyty Ystwyth has been working together to create in textiles a visual record of the history of the village.

The idea was initiated by the school. 22 events form the subject of the exhibition, using old source material such as old photographs, paintings etchings etc. Groups from the village selected images that they felt were relevant to them to create the textile image. Over 90 people took part, and worked with community artist Pod Clare to create the images.

Here and There

4 smacks aberystwyth by stuart evans

'Here and There' was an exhibition of lino prints by Stuart Evans. Known for his local ship pictures and designs this show also includes work inspired by travelling abroad. The bright colours of Africa, the dark shadows of Paris. Each work is printed in black oil based ink and hand coloured with watercolour paint, making each image unique.

9th July – September 2008 Pip Lewis

When the new entrance to Bronglais Hospital was being built, Haul organised a project to turn the unsightly hoardings into colourful works of art. The community artist, Pod Clare led the project and worked with 4-7 year old children from Plas Crug, Llwyn yr Eos, Cwm Padarn and St.Padarn’s Schools in the drawing stage. Hospital staff visited the schools to explain about the work of a hospital and the artist then helped the children make drawings about what they had learned.  A selection of the drawings were made and transferred to the hoardings with help from the University student volounteer group, Dim Prob.  A colouring book of the drawings was also produced and sold to raise funds for future projects.

They worked with the support of their family members and carers and facilitated by a community artist.

The panels depict scenes from all over Ceredigion. Workshops were held in day centres, hospitals, village halls and even in people’s homes. Most of the panels are in a long corridor in the hospital and some can be seen in the outpatient’s waiting room. The project was co-ordinated by Haul and Cywaith Cymru.Artworks Wales with the financial assistance of the Arts Council of Wales and the Calouste Gulbenkein Foundation.

Haul’s project for 2006 was to draw profiles of staff at Bronglais Hospital by shining a torch on the face which created a shadow on the wall behind them. A quick tracing of their profile was made in 2-3minutes and the profile was cut out of coloured paper.

Over 100 staff participated and all the profiles were displayed in a wave like shape in the exhibition space in Bronglais Hospital restaurant.
